The purpose of this 4-module course is to provide the participant with an understanding of the transition process, ideal clinical instructor behaviors, mentorship, basic teaching and learning principles, and the fundamentals of clinical teaching.

Welcome to the first course of the Academic Clinical Nurse Educator Preparation Program. This course consists of the following Four Modules.
Module # 1: Transitioning to the Role of Effective Clinical Instructor: This module presents a realistic picture of the transition process from clinical nurse expert to novice nurse educator and, secondly, to become aware of the most effective teacher characteristics from the nursing student’s perspective.
Module # 2: The Mentoring Relationship: This module provides the background, purpose, and importance of the mentoring relationship between new and seasoned faculty.
Module # 3: Teaching and Learning introduces the novice clinical instructor to learning theories with real-world applications that apply to clinical teaching.
Module # 4: Foundational Issues in Clinical Instruction: The module provides foundational information specific to academic clinical teaching in the areas of: Ethics, Trust, the National League for Nursing (NLN), the Institute of Medicine (IOM), now known as the HEALTH and MEDICINE Division (HMD), Quality and Safety Education (QSEN), and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
